Q: How do I place an order?

Map Town offers five ways in which to purchase a product from our site:

  1. Online: Fill in the required information on the order form that is supplied after clicking the "check out" button. Please follow all instructions and read all information on each page. This type of online purchase does require your credit card information.
    • Make sure your internet settings accept cookies.
    • Do not put spaces between credit card numbers during checkout.
  2. Fax Order Form Service: Print and fill out the Fax Order Form

  4. Order by Mail: You may send in an order request by mail. However, if you plan on paying by cheque, please contact us prior to sending in the order so we can put the item on hold and give you a total for the cheque payment. Please include your full name, address, phone number, items requested and shipping option requested. If paying by credit card, include the full credit card number, expiration date and credit card holder's name.
  5. Email: You may also use e-mail as a purchase option, but we do not recommend it. E-mail is not secure or encrypted in any way. Therefore it leaves your confidential information vulnerable to hackers while in transit.
With any of the above methods, please review your order to ensure all information provided is complete and correct to avoid delays in shipping.

Q: Methods of Payment
  • Map Town accepts Visa, Master Card and American Express credit cards.
  • All American Express payments will be processed in Canadian funds at this time. The payment will then be converted to your native currency based on current exchange rates. This may have the effect of the total cost shown above to not match the amount charged on your statement. If you would like to be charged in USD please use either a Visa or MasterCard.
  • Online purchases must provide a valid credit card number. The customer's billing name and address should match the address and name listed on the credit card.
  • Money orders are accepted. Map Town will not ship an order until payment has been received. Using money orders will cause a slight delay, so please allow for this.
  • If paying by cheque or money order, please contact us prior to sending the payment for a total amount payable.
  • Orders outside of Canada will be charged in US funds only (Except American Express which will be charged in Canadian funds). All international money orders must be payable in US funds.
  • Orders within Canada are charged in Canadian funds.
  • Map Town reserves the right to refuse payment by credit card for any order placed.
Q: When will my order be shipped?
  • Your order will be processed and shipped within 2 business days of Map Town receiving the order provided the item(s) is in stock and there are no problems with your order.
  • Business days do not include weekends or holidays.
  • Delivery times listed online during checkout do not include the 2 business day processing time and are approximations only.
  • Delays in shipping will occur if:
    • The order form is incorrectly filled out (e.g. Invalid address or no address indicated)
    • Your credit card number is invalid or is declined
    • An item is out of stock
    • No phone number or an invalid phone number is provided
    • Invalid or incorrect e-mail address is given
  • If an item is out of stock, the order will be shipped when the item is available. (Please refer to "Back Orders" for more information.)
  • When paying by money order the order will be shipped as soon as the payment has been received and verified.
  • Map Town will make every effort to ship an order as quickly as possible. However, Map Town can not guarantee delivery by specific dates or times.
  • Please order well in advance should you require a product by a specific date.

Q: How will my order be shipped?
  • Map Town does NOT offer overnight courier service.
  • Map Town uses Purolator and Canada Post for shipping.
  • Map Town does NOT use US Postal Service, DHL or FedEx for regular shipping.

Q: How long will my order take to arrive?
  • Approximate shipping times are indicated when you pick your shipping option during checkout.
  • Shipping times are also listed on our our Shipping Information page.
  • Shipping times are given in business days. Business days do not include holidays (see Holiday Closures) or weekends.
  • Shipping rates DO NOT include our 2 business days processing time. Include the processing time when calculating an approximate delivery date.
  • Map Town does not guarantee delivery by specific dates.
  • Please make sure to choose the fastest available shipping option should you require your order by a specific date.
Q: How will I be contacted?
  • Email is our main form of communication for all online orders. Map Town will use the email listed in the "Sold To" section of the order form for all communications.
  • Please review your order for correctness and to make sure the email address given is vaild.
  • Please ensure that Map Town is on your list of accepted emails.
  • Customers are responsible for adding Map Town to their list of approved senders.
  • Map Town will not reply to emails from customers requesting Map Town to fill out a request to be on the customer's approved list.
    • Map Town is not responsible should a customer not receive an email regarding the status of their order because Map Town is not on the customers approved senders list.
  • You will receive an automatically generated email confirming your order. If you do not receive this email within 24 hours after placing an order, please contact us as your order may not have been submitted correctly.

Q: How do I know that you received my order?
  • Once you hit the "Complete Order" button a screen will appear listing your order number, sold to and shipped to addresses. Please keep the order number for reference.
  • You will receive an automatically generated email confirming your order. This email will be sent to the email address you provide in the "Sold To" section of your order form. (Please ensure that Map Town is on your list of accepted emails. Map Town will not respond to emails sent requesting us to link to you email to get on your approved email list.)
  • If you do not receive this email within 24 hours after placing an order, please contact us as your order may not have been submitted correctly or you may have entered your email address incorrectly.
  • The confirmation email will contain your order number and items ordered. It will not include any comments or instructions you wrote on the order form.
  • A link will be provided in your confirmation email for you to view your order. Any comments or instructions you included can be viewed here. You can not change or edit your order from this link.

Q: What if there is a problem with my order?
  • Should there be a problem with you order, we will email you as soon as possible to inform you of the problem. This email will be sent to the email address given in the "Sold To" section of the order form.
  • In the event of a problem with an order, we will hold the item(s) ordered for two weeks after we have emailed you. If we do not receive a response, your order will be automatically cancelled after the two weeks.
  • Some common problems:
    • Credit card number is invalid or is declined; an incorrect expiration date will cause the card to be declined
    • Billing or shiping address fields are filled out incorrectly
    • Phone number is not given
    • Items ordered are currently out of stock. (Please refer to "Back Orders" for more information.)
Q: How do I change my order or order information:
  • You can NOT change your order from the link provided in your order confirmation email.
  • Please contact Map Town as soon as possible with any changes as we can not change orders already processed and shipped.

Q: Who is responsible for brokerage fees, international duties and tariffs?
  • Prices listed do NOT include any tax or tariff imposed by the government of the destination country.
  • Please check with your local government agency to determine the applicable tariffs.
  • Map Town is not responsible for any brokerage fee charged.
  • Map Town does not charge GST or any other tax to products ordered from outside of Canada.
International Shipping Rates (outside Canada and the US)
  • Some small orders may qualify for reduced shipping rates.
  • A custom shipping quote will be emailed to you for your approval prior to Map Town processing your order.
  • Reduced shipping rates for small orders will not be listed during check-out; rates will be emailed to customers.
  • During check-out, you still must select from the available shipping options.
  • If you would like a quote for a reduced shipping rate, please indicate your request in the comments/instructions field of the order form. Please note, not all orders will qualify for reduced shipping rates.

  • Please check with you local government agency to determine the applicable tariffs. In general, books, maps, and other paper products are not dutiable items.
  • Map Town is not responsible for any brokerage fee charged.
  • Map Town does not charge GST or any other tax to products being shipped outside of Canada.
US Military - APO/FPO Addresses
  • Map Town does ship to US Military APO/FPO addresses by Expedited or Express Mail only (Canada Postal service into the US).
  • UPS delivery is not available for APO/FPO addresses.
  • Delivery times listed listed during check-out only indicate the approximate time it takes for a package to reach the APO/FPO sortation facility.
  • Delivery times listed do not indicate how long it will take for the package to reach the customer at the actual military base where the customer is stationed.
  • Map Town does not know how long it will take for the package to reach the customer overseas once it has reached the APO/FPO address.
Local Calgary Orders
  • Please be advised that all Calgary orders placed online are subject to the same processing time as all other online orders.
  • Orders will be processed within 2 business days of us receiving the order.
  • Orders with a Calgary delivery address will be shipped in the same manner as listed under the "Shipping" section.
  • Should you require faster service, please call or fax in your orders to the numbers listed below. Local Calgary courier charges will be provided once an order is placed.

Map Town Policies


Q: Privacy Policy: What do you do with personal information?
  • Map Town is strongly committed to protecting the privacy of our customers.
  • Absolutely NO personal information gathered by Map Town will be supplied to external firms for marketing purposes or demographic studies.
  • We do retain information on our server to recognize you when you return to save you the trouble of re-entering your shipping information. This information will never be released to external parties for any reason.
Q: What is your Return Policy?
  • We want you to be happy with your purchase and shop with confidence at Map Town. We will gladly accept returns providing the product is in new condition and the product can be resold. A copy of the invoice is required along with a short explaination for the return.
  • We request that you email us at maps@maptown.com or call us to let us know that you will be returning an item.
  • All refunds will be made to the same form of payment used to purchase the product.
  • Please understand that we will not accept returns on software, GPS or digital products that have been opened, but we will offer an exchange for the identical product if the one you receive is defective. Proof of purchase is required.
  • The customer is responsible for all return shipping charges of the product. A refund for the original purchase price of the products will be issued once Map Town receives the returned merchandise in good condition. Map Town does not refund the original billed shipping charges.
  • Refused Delivery: If a customer refuses delivery of a package and the package is returned to us by UPS on our account, the customer will receive a refund for the purchase price of the item(s) minus any shipping charges billed on our account.
  • Refunds/retuns are not allowed for all special ordered items. Please see the Special Orders section for more information.
Q: What is your Return Policy for Aeronautical Charts?
  • NO returns/refunds will be issued for expired charts.
  • Should you have to return a chart, please ensure that Map Town receives the chart prior to the expiration date of the chart. If Map Town receives the chart past the expiration date, no refund will be permitted.
  • Customers are responisble for ensuring Map Town receives the chart prior to expiration. Make sure an appropriate shipping method is used so that the charts come back to us in a timely manner.
  • We request that you phone or email us to let us know that you will be returning the charts prior to sending them back. Visit our Contact Information section.

Q: What about credit cards on the Internet?
  • The concerns people have about using their credit card number and personal information on the Internet are valid and deserve addressing.
  • Map Town uses 256 bit layered encryption software that is state of the art and the best offered by Microsoft. Encryption means that even if your information was intercepted the message can not be read. This software is Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator compatible.
  • Once your credit card number arrives at Map Town's secure server your order will be handled by a staff that has never experienced an in house credit card fraud situation in the 20+ years we have been in business.
Shipping Times and Delivery Delays
  • All shipping times listed are approximate and subject to customs clearance.
  • Map Town can not control delays due to:
    • Customs clearance delays
    • An incorrect address provided by the customer (please check your order for accuracy prior to submitting).
    • Attempted delivery but the customer is not home to receive the delivery
    • Inclimate weather
    • Postal strikes
  • Refunds for shipping charges will not be issued should any of the above delays occur.
Refused or Undeliverable Orders
Packages will be returned to Map Town due to the following:
  • Incorrect address provided by the customer.
  • Customer is consistantly not available to receive the package.
  • Customer does not respond to "Attempted Delivery" card left by delivery company.
  • Package is refused. This can occur if the shipping address is an office or apartment building and the customer does not inform reception staff of the upcoming delivery.
  • Package is sent to a person who is not aware that the customer is sending them a package. The order is then refused.
  • Customer has moved. (This tends to happen with US military personnel overseas.)
  • If a package is returned to Map Town for the above reasons, additional shipping charges will apply for Map Town to re-send the order.
  • Please ensure all information on the order form is correct prior to submitting an order; if you need to change incorrect information, please notify Map Town immediately after submitting an order. Once an order is shipped, we can not change information.
  • If the "ship to" person is different than the "bill to" person, plesae inform the "ship to" person that a package will be coming.
  • Please let all reception staff at offices or apartment building know that you are expecting a shipment.

Product Information


Q: What happens if a back order occurs?
  • There are times when demand for particular products will exceed our quantity on hand or you may have ordered a rare map that is on order by us and has simply not yet arrived.
  • When a back order does occur, we will contact you by e-mail with an expected date of arrival.
  • In the case of any unexpected delay, we will inform you as promptly as possible and keep you abreast of your order's status.
  • Our staff may suggest a similar product that is in stock and ready to ship.

Special order items
  • Some products are available by special order only and will generally be indicated in the product information. Examples of special order items:
    • Globes, rare maps, nautical charts, Mexico topographic maps, US topographic maps
  • Special order items are not kept in stock and have to be ordered from the supplier once a customer requests the item. The time it takes for us to receive the item from the supplier depends on the item ordered. You will receive an email indicating the expected arrival time for the item.
  • Full payment is required prior to us ordering the item.
  • All special orders are non-refundable once we have ordered the item from the supplier.
  • Additional shipping charges may apply. We will email you a quote for your approval prior to processing your order.
Multiple Quanities Ordered
  • In some cases, customers will order large quantities of an item of which we do not have all of the requested copies available. In this instance, we have to special order the requested copies from our supplier. The time it takes for us to receive the items from the supplier depends on the items ordered. You will receive an email indicating the expected arrival time for the items.
  • Full payment is required prior to us ordering the items.
  • As this is a special order, no refunds are permitted.
Globes
  • Additional shipping charges may apply for all globes ordered. Shipping charges listed during check out may not apply.
  • Special Order Globes: Special order globes are not kept in stock and have to be ordered and shipped from the supplier to the customer. Additional shipping charges will usually apply and shipping times will vary.
  • Shipping charges will be quoted by email for customer approval prior to processing an order.

Map Town Website Problems


I get an "Invalid Credit Card Number" error during checkout

  • DO NOT add spaces when entering the credit card number. This will cause an invalid credit card number error. During checkout, we do list in the instructions not to add spaces.
  • The credit card numbers are entered incorrectly. Check to make sure you entered the card numbers in the proper order.
Shopping Cart Problems

  • If you have your internet settings blocking cookies, our shopping cart system will not work.
  • You must change your settings to accept cookies otherwise you will NOT have a cart to view.
  • Make sure you Java Script enabled (especially for FireFox and Netscape users). The shopping cart system will not work otherwise.
  • Internet Explorer users have your security settings set to "Medium".
  • If you are ordering from your work place, please note, some companies block this type of activity and you may not be able to order from your work computer. Please check with your company for further information.
  • Map Town does not provide technical support to change your internet settings. Please read your browsers help files.

  • Please be advised the Map Town does not provide technical support for either the Coordinate Converter or TopoFinder.
  • Map Town does not guarantee the accuracy of the information provided.
  • The programs are for general use only and should not be used as definitive coordinates.
  • Your computer must allow Java Applets to be viewed (enabled).
  • Please refer to your computer's help files for assistance with enabling Java.
  • With Windows XP, Java may not be installed. You will need to down load Java and install it on your computer. Please click here for a free Java download.
