Facts and Online Map for Guadeloupe

Guadeloupe is an archipelago of nine inhabited islands in the eastern Caribbean Sea, southeast of Puerto Rico. The names of each island are Basse-Terre, Grande-Terre, Marie-Galante, La Desirade, Iles des Saintes (2), Saint-Barthelemy, Iles de la Petite Terre, and Saint-Martin (French part of the island of Saint Martin).

Guadeloupe has been a French possession since 1635. The local culture is a blend of French and African influences, so you can imagine that the cuisine and the music are lively and exciting. The official language is French, and there is also a Creole patois spoken.

With a subtropical climate tempered by trade winds, Guadeloupe is popular for swimming, snorkeling, diving, surfing and windsurfing. Heading inland on short or more lengthy hikes is also a possibility. One strenuous hike takes you to Chutes du Carbet, the eastern Caribbean's highest waterfall. Discover other amazing sights when you buy a Guadeloupe travel book and map to start dreaming of your visit.
