Malta is an independant, Commonwealth country. It consists of islands in the Mediterranean Sea, south of Sicily (Italy). The population is made up of ethnic Maltese, who are descendants of ancient Carthaginians and Phoenicians, with strong elements of Italian and other Mediterranean stock. The official languages spoken on Malta are Maltese and English.

Malta has a long and storied history, beginning back in 3800 BC. Neolithic temples on Malta are the oldest known human structures in the world.
