Memory Map Professional Features:

Overlay data import/export: The standard product can import and export using the Memory-Map and Maptech proprietary formats, and CSV text format. The professional version adds ESRI Shapefile format (widely used standard for distributing geographic data).
- In ESRI Shapefile import, there is an option for automatically joining track segments. This is useful if your GPS data consists of a large number of separate polyline segments in the Shapefile.
- Import NMEA 0183 data logs (RMC, and WPL sentences).
Real Time Tracking of Remote Parties: With Memory-Map Professional, you can use Memory Map's internet tracking service to show the real-time location of mobile users or assets. View more information about Real Time Tracking.
Keep track of your business assets, or your buddies! Using a wireless internet data connection, the position of all parties in your group is shown on the map. Click for more details.
Large-format Printing: The standard product only allows map printing up to 13"x19". Use the professional version if you have a large format printer.
Using a Pocket PC at night: The professional license includes a "Night colors" option in Pocket Navigator.

Memory-Map Remote Tracking:

With Memory-Map Professional, you can use Memory Map's internet tracking service to show the real-time location of mobile users or assets. Use of the service requires a wireless internet connection. Many cellular phone companies offer a data service, such as GPRS, which you can connect to using a laptop or Pocket PC.

Types of Hardware Confiqurations:

Laptop with wireless WAN PC-Card
Pocket PC Phone Edition, with GPS card
WebTrac-4 dedicated tracking device with integrated GPS and GSM phone.
A Globalstar satellite phone gives an internet connection where no cellular coverage is available
Pocket PC, with Bluetooth GPS and Cell phone

Tracking Features:

Track any number of mobile parties.
Runs on Windows PC and Pocket PC.
Each party can see the position of all other parties in the group, overlaid on a topo map, marine chart, street map, etc.
User defined interval for position reporting / update, with automatic dial-out and hang-up.
Works via cellular network, satellite phone, WiFi, or any other kind of internet connection. For example, you can use a cellular network (WAN) card in a laptop, a Pocket PC with built-in phone, or a separate cellphone, connected to the PC or PDA with either a cable or bluetooth.
Efficient use of network bandwidth, scalable to hundreds of parties in a group.
Free tracking service for licensed Memory-Map Professional users. (You are charged for internet access by your ISP or cellular network provider).

Tracking Requirements:

The application runs on Windows 2000 or Windows XP, and on Windows Mobile Pocket PC 2002 or later.
An internet connection is required. Anything that can provide access for browsing the web will work. It can be a dial-up connection or an always-on service such as GPRS. Talk to your cellular service provider about setting up a data connection for your laptop or Pocket PC.
If using a cellular network, make sure you have coverage in the area you want to use the product.
