Antique map of Tartary by Herman Moll - circa 1709. The map was made by the famous map maker Herman Moll. It reads Great Tartary. The Isle of Iapon. The map concentrates on Asia, Russia and Persia. Extends from the Caspian Sea in the West to the North and East Seas of the Pacific Ocean.

The inset of China reads A Tract of the Journey which Fath Verbieft made from Pekin (Peking) to the Eastern Tartary in the year 1682. The inset is interesting as it speaks to the tombs where past Emperors of China are located.

Tartary (Latin: Tartaria) or Great Tartary (Latin: Tartaria Magna) was a name used from the Middle Ages until the twentieth century to designate the great tract of northern and central Asia stretching from the Caspian Sea and the Ural Mountains to the Pacific Ocean, settled mostly by Turko-Mongol peoples after the Mongol invasion and the subsequent Turkic migrations."

Measures 8 Inches wide x 12.75 Inches tall. This monotone map has writing on the back side, is hard to find and is in VG condition with foxing along the edges.
