Canada, the second largest country in the world has a land area of 9,976,140 sq. km's and a population of only 31,281,092 (July 2000 est.) Canada's capital city is Ottawa, which is located in southeastern Ontario.

Covering most of the northern part of the North American continent, Canada has an extremely varied topography. In the east the mountainous maritime provinces have an irregular coastline on the Gulf of St. Lawrence and the Atlantic. The St. Lawrence plain, covering most of southern Quebec and Ontario, and the interior continental plain, covering southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan and most of Alberta, are the principal cultivable areas. They are separated by a forested plateau rising from Lakes Superior and Huron.

Westward toward the Pacific, most of British Columbia, Yukon, and part of western Alberta are covered by parallel mountain ranges, including the Rockies. The Pacific border of the coast range is ragged with fjords and channels. The highest point in Canada is Mount Logan ( 6,050 m, 19,850 ft), which is in the Yukon. The two principal river systems are the Mackenzie and the St. Lawrence. The St. Lawrence, with its tributaries, is navigable for over 3,058 km (1,900 mi).

Ontario Canada travel guide book. Professional travel writer Carolyn B. Heller shares the best ways to experience all that Ontario has to offer, from scuba diving shipwrecks in the Great Lakes to dining on contemporary fare at Torontos hottest restaurants The Northwest Passage Bradt Travel Guide Secret Beaches of Southern Vancouver Island
The Northwest Passage
Our Price: $26.50
This guide is complete with tips on enjoying more than just the falls on the Niagara peninsula. The book recommends the ferry to Pelee Island for wine-tasting and relaxation, and the unforgettable experience of ice skating on the world's longest rink. The Northwest Passage is an ice-choked waterway with spectacular
landscapes and a powerful history of naval endeavour. It is also an
unfolding opportunity for adventurous travel. The five-century dream of a
trade route to Asia by way of a short-cut through the Arctic
archipelago is, this book shows, finally a reality.  Over the last
decade global warming has opened this fabled passage in late summer for
freight and for bold tourists. This is the first book to draw together
the rich history with a guide to the region - home for the majority of
the world's seabirds, enormous numbers of seals, plenty of polar bears
and narwhals and more than enough mosquitoes. It is also home for Inuit,
who arrived from the east, adapting superbly to a cruel climate.
Today's travellers can see incomparable scenery and a wealth of
wildlife.
This is your guide to dozens of spectacular and often hidden beaches on the eastern coast of Vancouver Island between Qualicum and the Malahat. While some of them are well used by people living nearby, many are virtually impossible to find without combing through official maps and back-road guides. From tiny rocky coves to broad sandy beaches, these public-access spots are enormously diverse.
