• Definition: This is the internationally recognized and generally preferred collective term for the original inhabitants of Canada.

• Includes: It is an umbrella term that includes the three distinct groups recognized in the Canadian Constitution:

  • First Nations

  • Inuit (the Indigenous people of the Arctic regions)

  • Métis (people of mixed First Nations and European ancestry)
